Deep Neural Network (DNN) Processor

The Starkey’s Genesis AI mRIC R is built around an all-new Starkey Neuro Processor, which incorporates a dedicated Deep Neural Network (DNN) accelerator on-chip. This unique processor architecture is engineered to mimic the human auditory system, essentially giving the hearing aid a small AI brain of its own. The on-board DNN is trained with deep learning to recognize complex sound patterns and acoustic environments, much like the cerebral cortex processes sound, enabling the device to adapt to soundscapes more intelligently than traditional hearing aid DSPs. In short, the Genesis AI’s processor itself is AI-powered, which is a major leap in hearing aid design

Processing Power & Architecture: The Starkey Neuro Processor is not only the smallest Starkey has ever made, but also the most powerful, packing 6× more transistors than the previous generation chip. It runs up to 4× faster than earlier Starkey processors while being more energy-efficient . In fact, it’s loaded with 5× more computational memory and 10× more non-volatile memory than before, providing plenty of headroom for advanced algorithms and data storage. This significant hardware upgrade allows the Genesis AI 24 to perform an astonishing 80 million automatic adjustments per hour to the sound processing. (That’s on the order of 22,000 adjustments every second!) These rapid, AI-driven micro-adjustments “fill in” speech information that might otherwise be lost, dramatically improving sound clarity and naturalness for the wearer. The new processor also boasts a ~20 dB improvement in input dynamic range (allowing it to handle a wider range of soft to loud sounds without distortion) and achieves Starkey’s lowest noise floor yet – meaning it introduces very little internal noise, contributing to clearer sound quality.

Onboard Sensor Suite

Another standout aspect of the Genesis AI mRIC R is its integrated sensor suite that goes beyond hearing enhancement to enable health and safety features. Starkey pioneered the use of motion sensors in hearing aids with earlier models, and in Genesis AI this technology is further refined and miniaturized. Despite being “the industry’s smallest RIC hearing aid with a sensor” (20% smaller than Starkey’s previous sensor-equipped RIC), the Genesis AI mRIC R manages to pack in an array of motion-sensing hardware (accelerometers and gyroscopes) to monitor movement and gestures. These onboard sensors unlock features that set Genesis AI apart:

  • Fall Detection & Alerts: The Genesis AI  is capable of detecting falls and notifying others. The built-in motion sensors can detect the abrupt acceleration and impact characteristic of a fall. If the wearer takes a tumble, the hearing aid, through its companion app, can automatically send a Fall Alert to pre-selected contacts (family or friends) with the user’s location. This safety feature is invaluable for older adults living alone – essentially turning the hearing aids into a lifeline device in emergencies. No competing hearing aid family offers an integrated fall detection of this kind, which highlights Starkey’s leadership in merging healthcare monitoring with hearing technology.
  • Activity and Health Tracking: The Genesis AI’s sensors also function as fitness trackers on your ears. They continuously measure movement and activity, allowing the My Starkey smartphone app to log your daily steps, measure how long you’ve been active or standing, estimate exercise and calorie burn, and even track “engagement” in activities. All these wellness metrics, step count, movement, exercise time, etc. are available for the user to monitor, just like with a wearable fitness device. Starkey frames this as using “the science of the ears” to help wearers achieve well-being goals. In practical terms, your hearing aids can encourage you to stay active by tracking your activity levels throughout the day. This personal health monitoring technology with embedded sensors is a signature of Starkey’s AI line , and remains rare among competitors.
Live Language Translation & Transcription

One of the standout features in Starkey’s top-tier Genesis AI models is real-time language translation via the My Starkey app. This feature uses cloud-based services to listen to speech in a foreign language and instantly transcribe and translate it into your chosen language on your smartphone screen. It can be especially useful in travel, international business, or multilingual family situations, where clear communication is essential. The translation is powered through the smartphone’s microphone and Starkey’s AI-driven app interface, which makes it accessible and easy to use for anyone with basic phone familiarity.

In addition, the app supports real-time speech transcription, converting spoken words into text on your device. This can be incredibly beneficial for users who struggle with fast or unclear speech, group conversations, or noisy environments. The transcript can be saved or reviewed later, aiding memory and accessibility. These language and accessibility tools extend the value of the hearing aids far beyond hearing correction, turning them into powerful communication tools for real-world, real-time challenges.

Tinnitus Management – Multiflex Tinnitus Pro

Genesis AI includes built-in Multiflex Tinnitus Pro technology, which offers relief for users suffering from tinnitus, a persistent ringing or buzzing in the ears. This system allows your hearing care provider to customize a sound therapy profile specifically for your tinnitus pattern. These sounds (which can resemble white noise, pink noise, or even soothing ocean-like tones) are delivered through the hearing aids and help to mask or reduce the perception of tinnitus. They are fully integrated into the hearing aids and do not interfere with amplification for hearing loss.

The tinnitus relief can be activated as a dedicated program or blended with everyday hearing programs depending on your preferences. This allows for seamless transition throughout the day, offering relief when needed without manual intervention. Because the therapy is built directly into the hearing aids, there’s no need for a separate device, making it a discreet and convenient option for managing tinnitus symptoms. This is especially valuable for users who want all-in-one hearing and tinnitus support from a single device.

CROS/BiCROS Support

Starkey Genesis AI mRIC and RIC support both CROS (Contralateral Routing of Signal) and BiCROS (Bilateral Routing of Signal with amplification) setups, making it an excellent solution for individuals with unilateral hearing loss or asymmetrical hearing loss. In a CROS system, a non-amplifying transmitter is placed on the unaidable ear, and it sends sound wirelessly to a hearing aid on the better ear, allowing the user to hear sound from their deaf side. A BiCROS setup adds amplification in the better ear, helping people who have hearing loss in both ears but a more severe loss on one side.

This wireless streaming is done in real time with minimal delay, and the system is fully integrated with all of Genesis AI’s sound processing and AI features. For users who previously found it difficult to localize sound or hear in group conversations due to single-sided hearing loss, CROS/BiCROS configurations can dramatically improve spatial awareness and quality of life. The Genesis AI system makes switching between standard and CROS programs easy, and your hearing care professional can fine-tune the balance between each ear for optimal results.

Tap Controls

Tap Controls are an intuitive way to interact with Genesis AI hearing aids without needing a button or phone. A gentle double tap on the device can trigger pre-assigned actions such as activating Edge Mode+, answering a call, pausing music, or even launching a voice assistant like Siri or Google Assistant. This is made possible through onboard sensors that detect vibration or motion at the ear.

Tap Controls offer a hands-free and discreet way to interact with your hearing aids in everyday situations. Whether you’re in a meeting, driving, or cooking, a quick tap can adjust your environment or respond to a call without reaching for your phone or fiddling with buttons. You can customize what the tap does via the My Starkey app, giving you full control over how you want to use this feature. It’s a great mix of tech-savvy functionality and real-world usability.

Edge Mode+

Edge Mode+ is Starkey’s on-demand noise management system. It allows users to manually activate enhanced speech or noise reduction processing during difficult listening situations. Available universally across Genesis AI models and all technology levels. This feature allows users to select their listening intent, such as enhancing speech or reducing background noise, through the My Starkey app. Once activated, Edge Mode+ utilizes artificial intelligence to automatically adjust the hearing aid settings, optimizing sound quality based on the user’s chosen intent and the surrounding environment.

The integration of Edge Mode+ in all Genesis AI models signifies a significant advancement in hearing aid technology, offering users a more personalized and adaptable listening experience. By leveraging AI-driven automation, users can experience improved speech clarity and noise reduction without the need for manual adjustments, making everyday interactions more comfortable and natural.

Voice AI

tarkey’s Genesis AI hearing aids incorporate advanced artificial intelligence to enhance speech clarity, especially in challenging listening environments. The Voice AI feature, available exclusively in the 24 technology level, leverages this AI technology to significantly improve speech enhancement in noisy settings. By analysing and adapting to various soundscapes in real time, Voice AI helps users focus on conversations, making it easier to hear and understand speech in environments like busy restaurants or crowded gatherings.

This feature reflects Starkey’s broader commitment to integrating AI-driven solutions into their hearing aids, delivering a more natural and effortless listening experience.
